Historical Society of Federal Way

The Historical Society of Federal Way is a community‑driven organization dedicated to preserving, researching, educating, and sharing the rich history of Greater Federal Way. Founded in 1988, the Society serves as a trusted steward of local heritage, helping residents and visitors alike connect with the people, places, and stories that shaped the region.

At the heart of the Society’s work is its extensive archive of historical materials, including photographs, documents, and exhibits that chronicle life in Federal Way from its earliest settlement through the 20th century and beyond. The Society’s interactive Heritage Center museum and curated exhibits provide engaging opportunities for learning and reflection, with rotating displays that highlight themes such as community life, wartime service, and neighborhood development.

The Society also maintains and showcases historic structures such as the Barker Cabin and Denny Cabin, offering visitors a glimpse into early pioneer life. These cabins are open to the public during scheduled seasonal hours, creating immersive learning experiences that bring history to life.

Beyond exhibits, the Historical Society hosts educational programs, research support services, and community events that strengthen local identity and heritage appreciation. Whether you’re exploring family history, researching a community topic, or participating in a guided history program, the Society provides valuable resources and meaningful connections.
