The City of Federal Way Parks Department is dedicated to enhancing quality of life through exceptional parks, facilities, and programs that serve the entire community. Guided by its Administrative Division, the department is organized into six specialized divisions that collectively manage recreation, facilities, and over 1,000 acres of parkland.

The Recreation Division delivers a diverse range of programs, including community center activities, athletic leagues, cultural events, and citywide celebrations designed to engage residents of all ages.

At the heart of the system is the Federal Way Community Center, a premier recreation facility featuring three gymnasiums, two pools, a fitness center, climbing wall, senior lounge, sauna and steam rooms, and flexible classroom and event spaces. The center serves as a hub for classes, programs, and community gatherings year-round.

The Dumas Bay Centre provides a scenic destination for retreats, conferences, and weddings, offering overnight accommodations, event rentals, and access to a 12-acre passive-use park and beachfront. Adjacent to the site, the Knutzen Family Theatre supports local arts and cultural programming with dedicated performance space.

The Park Maintenance and Operations Division oversees six community parks, 23 neighborhood parks, 23 open space areas, and three trail systems, maintaining a park system that spans more than 1,000 acres. This division also ensures the upkeep and operation of the city’s major facilities.

Through strategic leadership, the Administration Division coordinates all efforts to support park development, land acquisition, and long-term stewardship—ensuring accessible, high-quality recreational opportunities for current and future generations.
